No.3 Improve my culinary skills

Okay, so I admit it... I, like many others, really enjoy my food.  Even though I am currently single and  live on my own, I still cook from fresh ingredients each evening and weekend.  The though of eating TV Dinners just doesn't appeal to me.  There is something about being able to distinguish between the individual tastes and flavours that is the best part of eating.  I also really enjoy the preparation of meals, the chopping/slicing/measuirng and mixing.  I admit it, I am a bit of a food geek.  Oh, and I won't even dare to mention how many recipe books are in my bookcase...

The reason I set added this challenge to my list of 40 things to do before I'm 40 was that even though I was cooking regularly, I wasn't really challenging myself with enough variety of dishes.  I wanted to push myself a bit further and start cooking to a level that I was really proud of.  I have improved enough to happily say that I have completed this challenge, but am determined that this is just the first step.

Since setting this challenge a while back, I have had an adventure in the culinary world.  I have cooked many varied dishes and challenged myself on different techniques.  A small selection of the results are posted on my main blogsite.  I will be sure to add a few more over the coming months.  The amazing news is that some of them have become very popular and my "Traditional Steak And Ale Pie Recipe" now regulalry appears in the top 3 on the google search engine.

  1. These pics look amazing. I love Portuguese custard tarts but have never tried making them. This has inspired me to give them a go.

  2. Thank you so much! Well, I do hope you enjoy the Portuguese custard tarts. They really are so delicious (although I am a little biased).
